The History of the Lava Shell
Lava shell is a 100% natural tiger clamshell. It is sourced in the Philippines and is collected from a food waste product. This not only provides food but also jobs for the local industry on the island. The locals prepare the shell for use in massage by sand polishing them into a smooth tool and glueing them back together and cutting a small hole to place the sachet inside.
Crafted from tiger clamshells, and using an Eco-friendly, mixture of minerals and algae with saltwater and essential oils. When they are combined inside the shell, it creates a chemical reaction that causes heat for over one hour.
The shells come from real Tiger-Striped Clams, which are a traditional part of the Philippine diet. The shells used to be thrown away. Now they’re being recycled into this new massage tool.
The shells are composed of calcium carbonate, the same material found in our bones and teeth. The shell is polished and sanded, but its natural surface is white and ridged, with a rough, almost chalky texture.
Because the shells are calcium carbonate, they give off calcium ions naturally when heated, which are transferred directly to the skin during the massage process.
